Duo Gaia

Friends and collaborators Marilena Chrysochoidi (vocals) and Giorgos Tabakis (ancient Greek lyre), a distinguished guitarist and graduate of the Democritus University of Thrace’s training program "The ancient Greek lyre in education", present their new project titled Duo Gaia. This project focuses on the revival and performance of ancient Greek songs, based on the work of the renowned composer and researcher Nikos Xanthoulis. Original melodies of exceptional beauty from ancient Greece, discovered and decoded, are accompanied by the sound of the lyre – the "national" instrument of the Greeks of the 5th century BC.

Mission

The project serves an artistic, educational, and informative role, focusing on the historical events behind the musical pieces, the presentation of basic principles of ancient Greek musical perception, and the playing of the lyre.

Vision

The Duo aims to bring the rich musical heritage of ancient Greece to contemporary audiences and to seek the auspices of UNESCO and the International Action Art. This presentation offers valuable information and historical details unknown to the general public, as well as the opportunity for musical engagement with a period in history that became the foundation of Western music.
